rear end swap
plan on swapping a code 13 rear end for a code 19 rear end . the code 13 shows 2.75 ratio the code 19 shows 3.55 ratio ...am i going to gain in speed or power??????thanks ddakota

Hi ddakota,
You are going to gain power if you swap the code 13 rearend to a code 19.
You'll also need the right "odometer gear" which is attached to your tranny, otherwise your odometer shows wrong data, if I remember right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Technically, you'll increase the rear-wheel "torque", but that's how you feel the engine's power.

You're right about the speedo driven gear assuming ddakota is talking about his '81 or '83.

Post more info: engine & its condition; transmission; tire size; what you use the truck for; what you plan to do in the near future (realistically)...
Changing from 3.55 to 2.75 will give you a much higher top speed, but it'll take a LOT longer to get there with the loss of torque. If you don't have a granny 1st transmission or an auto with a low-stall TC, don't do it.

A 1984 302 with 56,000 origional miles on it.condtion great, New parts{ holly 670 truck avenger 4barl carb, edlbrock intake, headmen hedders}
as of now the truck has the stock tires on it. in the future I just plan on driving it. no 9 sec street truck for me. I dont really care about top speed becuz I never go that high. I just want to make sure I got good grip off the line . The trans is a auto with out overdrive. Hope thats enough info.

Well i wasnt sure if I should or not. I dont know alot about rears and I want to make the right choice even if its keeping what i got. Anf i thought who better to ask then the fine people who know thier stuff like you. what sounds good?

the 83 f ioo that is getting the code 13 rear end is just an old ranch truck the code 19 rear end was bad and i just need to get the truck moving will be used mostly just for transportation on ranch roads..thanks for all the replys..ddakota
