I had the same thing happen on a 97, took it to a garage they cleared the code, light stopped flashing for a few days then started again they said not to worry, it happened a couple more times same story then boom trany goes out. I would get it to a good trany shop or a good Ford dealer soon!

When the OD light flashes a code is stored in the computer. There are about 50 things that can might the light flash, and each one has a code. Find out what code is in there and then someone can help diagnose what's wrong. Without the code there isn't much that anyone can do to help.
Just clearing the code and keep driving usually results in a new transmission, just like Steve found out.
