I have had a positive experience w/ an Airraid on a 5.3L chevy silvy...only at high RPM but this was with Hypertech PPIII and headers and exhaust. Of the 3 mods the comp programmer was the best. You can hear air rushing into the motor.
Being that the diesel revs 1/2 as high a gasser but also uses 7X the amount of air I don't see the improvement being worth the detriment, i.e. larger particles being sucked into your engine, and constantly having to clean the MAF sensor from accumulated dust.
My 92 5.0L mustang had a response as well...at high RPM.
I would use one for racing but not on my $5K option/investment.

Decked out my '01 silverado 5.3 almost the same way but with a volant intake. Same deal - sounded nice but prolly not worth what I paid.
hate to say it but mine was a rocket. Could run w/ stock camaros, ricers, mustang GTs and definately a PSD superduty...although not with as much functionality and class.
