Does anybody know who makes the best air intake system for the 6.0? MAC is the only one that I can find any stats about. Their big claim to fame is a 26hp gain. Does anyone know what the AIRAID and K&N systems dyno specs are? I got a little money burning a hole in my pocket and want to make the best choice.
Well, I use the NEW AIRAID Replacement Filter. It cost 80 bucks and gave me 1 to 1.5 mpg. And you can hear it suckin the air just like u can the Cold Air Intakes. It seemed to increase boost by 1 PSI also.
And what else is getting sucked in. I have yet to see any third party information regarding filtration. If you look at the K&N dyno figures, it doesn't pay off unless you are 2500 rpm or more.
I sold my AFE PG7 intake. I found no benfit from it at all. I went back to the
stock filter. I tow in the 2000 rpm range, and I do use the Predator when towing (45 hp mode only) and it does great. I have tried both type of filters,
towing and non-towing for over a year and you just can't beat the stock
setup in everyday regular use.
Given that I HAVE FELT gains on gas vehicles that I put better flowing intake on,
I was "conflicted" about an intake upgrade on the 6-oh....
I can tell you Choctaw Bob's gave him at least 12 hp (and probably more) at our dyno runs....
I have a turbo back exhaust, which I guess gives me about 20 HP - NOT quantified - just guesstimate)
and Bob's had the stock exhaust at the time...
so maybe 25 to 30 HP for his K&N ???!?!?!!?
BUT, I'm not convinced that the gains are worth the small possibility of the risk...
Some say too much dust gets thru the K&N... I don't know...
but it is a small gain compared to the Predator gains.... so that's the ticket for me...
Spend your $250 for an intake on the predator... you WILL be pleased...
Most dyno number I've seen don't add any HP or tq to the motor by adding an air filter. Also the air filter in the 6.0 is made by Donoldson corp. and is top-notch. Somebody that actaully has a 6.0 can prolly validate that for me. Just commenting what I hear at various events.
I plan on a three phase operation of modifications for my truck. Phase one is an air intake, Phase two- ehaust, and phase three a chip. I think all will colpiment each other. I just wanted to know where to start.
I installed a k&n air filter system and a 4 inch turbo back exhaust at the same time and it seemed to cut the turbo lag back quite a bit. also go price a stock air filter and realize that over about 30,000 miles the k&n pays for itself

I believe both those statements to be true also, but that is simply me, everyone is entitled to thier own opinion. I affectionatly refer to the intake kits as *noisemakers*
I have had a positive experience w/ an Airraid on a 5.3L chevy silvy...only at high RPM but this was with Hypertech PPIII and headers and exhaust. Of the 3 mods the comp programmer was the best. You can hear air rushing into the motor.
Being that the diesel revs 1/2 as high a gasser but also uses 7X the amount of air I don't see the improvement being worth the detriment, i.e. larger particles being sucked into your engine, and constantly having to clean the MAF sensor from accumulated dust.
My 92 5.0L mustang had a response as well...at high RPM.
I would use one for racing but not on my $5K option/investment.
