This should be covered in the diesel supplement that came with your truck. Mine was in a nice pouch along with the owners manual.

No special break-in early oil change is required for the '03/'04 6.0 and I suspect the same is true for the '05. The oil change interval is 7,500 miles for normal service and 5,000 miles for severe service.

I changed mine the first time at 5,000 miles and have generally continued to do so at 5,000 miles only because I do so much short trip driving.

When you get ready to change the oil, consider a Fumoto valve and an oil analysis from Blackstone labs.com.

I agree with daryl. I change every 5000 miles. With an oil change at around $75 don't want to go too short or will cost a mint. My local dealership says 5000 is the norm unless in extreme conditions.

Well...if its like the 04's it should have 10-30 which is a lighter grade of oil for break-in purposes. I changed mine at 2000 because I was getting re-stationed and wanted to get my free oil change before I drove accross country. Otherwise I would have waited until 3000. SVC mgr at the dealership told me that 2000 miles was plenty with the 10-30.

Anyway...I will refer you to the engine break-in thread....I havne't read it but it may shed some light on how long to run with the 10-30.

Edited: just read Daryl's post...and I agree thats what the book says, but there have been many SD's that have had reports back from Blackstone with oil shearing problems. I also agree with getting a Fumoto valve (w/nipple)...makes changing the oil a breeze. As far as oil change intervals...a lot depends on how you drive your truck as stated. I generally change mine every 3000 miles...overly cautious...but thats just me

I change mine every 3000. This means that at 3000 miles I start thinking about it and usually get it done somewhere between 3500 and 5000.

I just changed mine for the 1st time today with 1600 miles on it. Didn't like the idea of all that possible metal running through the engine while it is breaking in. The filter looked fine though, very clean. I plan to change next in 5000 miles.

I changed mine at 3500 and again at 7000. I had Blackstone oil analysis done to see how it wa 5s breaking in. I now change at every 5000.

Every 5,000 miles for me and all the family vehicles. Easy for the supposed superior of the species around my house to remember to tell me that it is time.

As far as oil shear...it seems that the general consencous around here has been that yes the 6.0 shears oil quickly but then plateaus to an acceptable level. At least that is what I have gotten out of all of the previous discussions. I am sure others will elaborate.
