Straight Pipe

I've been thinking of going with a straight pipe but don't know the legality of it in the state of Missouri. I took a peak under the truck and did some rigging in the head and figured that a piece of pipe with proper clamps and hangers could take the place of the Cat and Muffler. If I can make it for more than 2 months w/o a ticket I will make it a permanent deal. Has anyone tried something like this? I also like the idea of this because if I don't like it myself I can always put the factory system back in.

I dont know the regs in MO, but up here we can run straight pipes if its turbocharged. The regs state that the turbo is a "noise attenuating device", which in effect will act like a muffler. As far as the converter goes, not sure on that one either. I suppose it depends on the inspection regs.

ac , you can probably check your DMV on line to see where they stand on mufflers and cats for your truck . If they require ether you can "gut" the cat and build a fake muffler that will pass a visual inspection .

Well I don't know about Misouri but on my '95 ext cab dually I unbolted the exhaust from the down pipe and then cut it about 2"in front of the cat and using an adapter welded a 4" chrome straight pipe on with a turn down and angled it towards the right rear wheels. It is a 6' pipe and really looks awsome. Beleive it or not its no louder than with the stock as long as your not in it. I love the turbo whine. Its here in Tennessee. So far no issues with the police etc. I've had mine for over a year and my brothers '97 has been like that since 2000.

Im in Kali-fornia (as per arnold)

havent had any problems here with my three trucks. exaust on wifes truck is stock just no muffler, its louder than my 97 with 5" on it havent had any problems. if your worried about it just make a fake muffler and you can take the cat and just drive a pipe through it that fits snugly inside of the cat then weld both ends so if they check and tap it with a stick it still sounds full.....plus the gutted cat under the truck right there kinda resonates sound in it, my 94.5 got quieter in the cab when i deleted it all togethor, i had originally just busted all the stuff out of it.

I live in Missouri, and have had a straight pipe on my truck for the last couple of months. Love the sound. I also live by a highway patrollman and pass his house every day. And since his house is at an intersection, I have to stop and take off right at his house; I can't just let off the throttle and idle by. He's never said a word to me about the noise level. I do not know what the laws say though.

My stock exhaust didn't have a cat (2000 F-350), but I replaced the whole thing with a 4" system. I just got a piece of 4" exhaust tubing from a local shop and clamped it in place of the muffler on the aftermarket system. Clean and simple.

Emissions are regulated by the Feds. Just because it flys doesnt mean its legal. Stealerships around here are getting tight on trade ins. They don't even want to look at a rice burner with mods.

here in MA if it came w/ a cat i cannot pass you on a sticker.

it is a federal law and has a $10,000 fine i am told by the DPE and the RMV.
i never saw them give the fine though.
you can make plenty of emmission power! the correct way.

i tried it both ways on gas motors and thought there was more power. but, i think it is phsycological from spening 2-3hrs welding and cutting
