I need to find a starter for a 86 F150 with the inline 6. I am also looking for anything else for performance and also how to convert my useless ifs front suspension to a straight axle. Please help.
Welcome to the forum. If you are looking for the location of your starter it is on the bottom side of the engine, on the passenger side, at the rear of the engine close to the transmission. Another way of finding it is to follow the big cable from the positive post on your battery, it goes to a relay then another big cable goes from the relay to the terminal on the starter. On the other hand, if you want to buy another starter for your truck you can go to almost any autoparts store and get a rebuilt starter. They need to know the year, model, engine and transmission on your truck and you should have no trouble getting one. While you are there pick up a Chilton or Haynes manual for your truck, you can by one online from the FTE store also. As far as trying to do anything more to improve performance read and watch the forums here until you get an idea of what you want to try. You can get a lot of info here from a lot of people a lot smarter than me. Good luck.
I am doing an SAS on my 84 F-250 right now, and believe me, it's a ton of work. You have to lift the truck at least 6", and then still clearance the cross member to fit the axle. If you can find an axle from a 78-79 F-150 4x4, this makes life much easier. Don't let anybody tell you that this is a drop-in conversion, though. Another thing to consider while doing this is to change to a crossover steering system, as this will aleviate many steering geometry problems. Having leaf springs on my truck is making this a little easier, but not by much, and unfortunately, due to the frame on your truck, you cannot go this route. It has been done, and can be done, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Try a search on "Straight Axle Swap", and you will find many results, mainly from the 4x4 and off-road forum.
