Candle Wax Removal

I have a question..

We used some of our new glass (crystal?) candlesticks this past weekend with some really crappy drippy candles that made a big mess on the candle stick itself. The stuff is pretty tough to get off without leaving residue and a waxy film.

What's the best way to get candle wax off something like that? Also, what's a good way to get it out of something such as a tablecloth?

I learned (not had to try yet) from a "carpet professional": Use a damp cotton disposable towell over the area and gently use an iron to heat it up and the wax will "suck" up into the towell. Just what I heard, when I had wax in the carpet, long story, scissors were the answer.

never personally done it but I've heard the same thing, with the iron n' all

on the candle sticks, I'd just heat it with some fire. the black with come off glass or crystal, or you could be careful and not get the flame that close

Put the candlestick holders in the freezer and then use a thumb nail or the back of a table knife to flick it off, no waxy residue. Heating leaves the surface oily from the parafin wax.

My mom uses these insent wax things, that get heated and the wax melts and smells nice.. when its time to change flavors we just put the thing with the wax in the freezer, and then when its cold it pops right out.

I've heard of people soaking candle sticks in hot water to soften up the wax, pick off the larger lumps and scrub with a soapy scotch brite.

When I was clenaing carpet, the hot water from the wand was usually enough to get wax out or most of it then a shot of dry cleaning solvent to get any residual.

I've heard the iron trick works pretty well too.

The iron thing works great, I have done this several times.. I usually use a paper grocery bag over the wax and use the iron on top of the bag.. It will absorb into the bag... piece of cake...
and like everyone else said freezing is good for non fabric items

There is a product at the hardware store made by the "un-du" corp. Candle wax remover. Works great, does have a chemical small, but seems to wash away. I have used it on floor tile, and carpet. Used a spot carpet cleaner after, worked great. Just an idea, I cant imagine it could dammage glass, seems like a kerosene type smell.

Yeah, a paper shopping bag works, just don't have the big red 'S' facing the carpet or you will have a big red S on your carpet after.
