Cleaning Fish

Just wondering if anyone has their own special way of cleaning Bass,Catfish,Crappie,Brown Trout,or anything else you catch..

I have a wood table out in my back yard that i use just to clean fish off with...I don't have the special knifes to clean fish...I just use what I got and it works fine....

So whats your way of cleaning,Post some tips you might have,And what your favorite kind of fish to catch and eat

I have an oversized wooden cutting board that I use. Normally, I just put a knife through the rear fin to anchor the whole fish(theres a little notch in the board from all the times Ive put the knife in). Then, to get it done quick, I take my handy clever and lop the head off. Since the rear is held down, I just run a filet knife from the tail to the head section. Clean out miscellanous innerds. Cut along the backbone. Youre done. Ive never had any trouble doing it that way. Seems to be the quickest for me. I catch alot of brook trout and small mouth bass up here. I have yet to nab one, but we have a major reservoir for the whole metro Boston area 5 minutes from my house, and there are landlocked salmon there. I havent been able to get out yet this season, but hopefully Ill be out this weekend.

Abig surface, a knife about 10 inches long (unless deling with larger salt water fish, or very large freshwater goo [fresh water drum] which you need a larger, much sterdier knife.

Lay the fish on the side, cut behind the fin all the way to the bone, but not through it.fillet the fish, leave alittle part connected at the tail so as to make it easier when taking the meat off the bone,

For catfish. you need a pole standing straight up., and skinnin pliers, can buy at wal mart
Tie a large hook on it with a rope
Hook the cat through the lower job, the stomach along the pole.
Cut off the fins, all of them, so as not to be stuck. we do this while it is still alive normally.
after that, slice the skin just behind the fins all the way around, grap the little flap of skin and pull it off....do not mind the squirming fish. after that you slice open the stomach, rip out everything inside, all the guts, any eggs, what not.....after that, break the vertabrae and tear the head off.....you now have a large chunk of meat with the vertabrae and ribs with it, take it off the hook and put on a table . every inch or so you cut a vertical slice from top to bottom. roll it in batter, throw it in the frier. you cvan leave the tail and dorsal fin, as they are edible after being fried.

For the rainbows and cutthroats around here we take a knife tip and run it up from anus to gills and cut the little attachment on the jaw and pull. Out come the guts and gills. Similar principle we use on deer and elk but you have to take a saw to the brisket.

My favorite way to cook 'em is catch and release to catch another day

Fish don't taste good no way.

But they're fun as heck to catch!

I think trout is gross...but I like crappie, wiper, walleye and catfish.
As far as cleaning them, I filet "flat" fish (crappies and smallmouth) and with salmon and catfish, I gut 'em and skin 'em and fry 'em and eat 'em.
But I mostly just toss them back...I fly fish alot and just don't have much desire to keep them.

Thanks for the reminder, actually. I need to re-line my fly rod and get ready for the season!

Hey, I have no problem with fishin eatin a balony sandwich, and drinkin a beer with my old man, or my gal on the bow in a two piece gettin a tan.but, you can't beat just having to walk outside and get the fish, then you can sit back down, watch the race and drink a beer............take care of everything at once.
