Thanks for all the help guys. This was the second oil change in my 350 and It has been serviced by my local Ford dealer here. It never occured to me to check the oil level after the change (DUMB!) I will do that today. I don't really mind the extra noise but the surging problem really sucks . Thanks again this site is really helpful.
Where do you get these Oil reports done at? I'd be curious to see what mine is.

Second that on the Blackstone Labs. This is the only one that I have used though. Interested in seeing other responses here and what you thought of their service.
I have an 04 F350 with the 6.0 diesel and am experiencing some problems with my change to Rotella 15w-40 oil. I have noticed when started on cool mornings the engine is much louder than before the change to Rotella until engine is up to operating temp. Also I have noticed a surge when excellerating while engine is still cool. I talked to a friend of mine who said some others were experiencing similar problems with their 6.0 after changing to Rotella oil and that they had found some oil additive that corrected the problem however he cannot find the name of the additive. I called my llocal Ford dealer and he has heard of no such problems or the additive but he called the Ford tech guys for info and they had no knowledge on this. Has anyone out there had this problem with their 6.0 litre and if so what was the solution. I prefer to keep running Rotella because that is what I have used in my other older model trucks with the 7.3 diesel. Thanks for any help.

I'm using Delo 400, 15/40 & have had the same situation, but only when camping in cold weather.
Everything I've read from Factory says it takes 15 quarts to do the change. I put 14 in and it's right at the top of "FULL" on my dip stick. E-Z question to answer, Did you let the oil drain for 20 mins and did you remove the oil filter cartridge with the drain plug still open? If you didn't ,then you just dumped a quart of old oil right back into the pan. I had blow-by problems with my 7.3 and hear tell that that will happen with the 6.0 also. "DO NOT OVER-FILL" means just what it says. As far as 15W-40 vs original factory oil? I will find out this week cause I just did my first virgin oil change on my new '04 6.0 4x4 DRW CREW !
Just getting my first oil change done. Switching to 10-30 for the winter as it is cold here (-24C ~-11F). I have an 05 F350 PSD. I asked the service manager about going to synthetic. He said that he contacted The Ford gods and they do not recomend it for the 6.0's. Will changing to synthetic affect your warranty? I know it deffinetely helps with cold starts.
