2005 Expy - WOW
just curious....did ford continue using the garbage Continentals???? if so, i'd watch the air pressure carefully that is if you don't have the tire monitor. i am glad to see that at least somebody is getting satisfaction. by the way you should watch for "brake pad wear " also. i hope that ford decided to go back to the harder alloy type rotors for the 05.
good luck and please keep us posted obout how your 05 Expy is "functioning".
thanx

Had it up to 80 the other day and its smooth as glass. The suspension and ride are superb. I have to watch the speedo carefully though because the truck is going a lot faster than it feels. Only diff between the 03 and the 05 is the dash and the 300 hp engine. The engine is also smooth as glass and the extra 40 hp really makes a difference. I would definately buy this expy

Here's a partial listing of the issues I've had with my 03.
Front Differential Spring-replaced under warranty
New Steering rack replaced under warranty for vibration--Fixed it for 5k. Vibration started again, this time out of warranty and 2 dealerships treated it as a separate problem, not a continuation--the shake is still there.
Body cladding rattled--fixed at 5k, now rattling again at 50k.
The next list I am typing has all happened since passing the factory warranty period.
Rear Differential whine.
A/C doesn't cool properly
Transmission slips coming out of 2nd gear around corners
The leather seat on the drivers side is cracked already (conditioned & cleaned regularly with Meguiars products)
Anti-lock brakes acting up
"emergency brake assist" won't disengage after a "panic" stop. If I hit the brakes hard, the system will engage until I come to a complete stop even without the foot on the pedal
Dash lights and tail light went completely out with a dead short in the system (fixed under warranty)
The truck eats front tires. Noticeable wear shows at 3k. THe truck has been aligned by Ford twice and an indy shop once. The tire dealers can't id the wear pattern, but suspect suspension problems. Ford finds nothing.
My latest and favorite, the transmission is "burning" fluid. I use about 1 quart every month and there are no leaks anywhere. The whole underside is clean and I have a new white concrete driveway that has zero drip marks yet the fluid levels continue to drop.
The mileage is awful (best I have ever gotten was almost 16mpg on the road--my last expy got almost 20, same drivetrain)
Rear seat powerpoint falls out.
And finally within the last 2 weeks, the idle has become rough
These are just a few of the problems. As I said, nearly all happened out of warranty and my state won't take lemon law claims unless they are
3 claims on the same issue
truck is out of use for 30 days
must happen within the first 24k miles
Top off these problems with nearly 60% depreciation in 19 months and that's a problem when spending nearly 40k. That doesn't even factor in the money I've had to spend on rentals while it was in the shop.
Is it a POS, Well, lets just say it has not lived up to my expectations nor has it been of the same quality of my 2000 or my 2002

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
My wife made the comment the other day as we were skimming down the interstate that the new Expedition didn't seem to have as much "pickup" as our other cars..... My response to her at the time was "we're doing 95 now, how much more pickup do you want?" It was so smooth she couldnt tell how fast we were traveling.

I did try the buy-back thing. I was told that I really "didn't have a case for buyback" from Ford, you know, the ones that made and supposedly stand behind the truck?
As for popping for an 05--I'm so far upside down that it's not an option (even with a-plan purchase)
To make matters even worse, the service center manager at the dealership I deal with is a personal friend and I honestly believe him when he tells me his hands are tied. He also told me the 04 f150 has many of the same problems. He had one as his personal truck and got rid of it after 3 WEEKS due to problems.
Guys, I have driven Fords nearly all my life. I am able to purchase via the A-plan which is one of the best deals I've ever seen. Even with that, it's going to be hard pressed for me to go back to Ford after 2 bad vehicles in an row (2002 EB was nearly as bad).
If you want something positive out of me, here it is--my 2000 Expedition was a great truck. Best of the three.
As for Ford, I would like to speak to them using explicatives that begin with the 6th letter of the alphabet, but it won't do any good, so I'll probably buy a different make next time. I won't get burned again.
For all those who have the newer expeditions with little or no trouble, I'm happy for you--things just didnt' work that way for me
