Rubbing compound

After being the victim of a local vandal I have got some scratches on my vehicles, and was wondering if rubbing compound will hurt to be used on newer vehicles. One told me that it is bad for the clearcoat. I think I will be able to buff most of the scratches out. I got a 95 mustang thats a dark greenish color. Will I be able to use rubbing compound on newer vehicles and if not is there any other products that I can use?

You should be able to. Make sure it says its clearcoat safe. I think Kit is clearcoat safe. You can get it at Wal-Mart for about 2 bucks. Its in a little yellow bottle. I've used it quite a few times with pretty good results. Meguires also has a decent scratch remover. I think its Scratch X. Also, the 3M products are pretty good. These products will strip your wax off though. So, I would wax the car after doing this. Make sure you do not use that GS27 crap! It really sucks.

3M works best for me, but make sure your paint isnt single stage!!!! if its oem, or PPG 2 stage paint, then go ahead... it will slightly dull your paint, but face it... when they paint your car they wet sand it after every coat of clear... including the final coat... you just have to polish, and polish, and polish lol eventually you get the shine back and the scratches are gone just make sure you dont press TOO hard when rubbing..
