My son bought one and brought it home last weekend. Black GT 5 speed. It's really nice looking and runs good. It really likes to run, quick on the rpms. Had it up to 140 mph, its solid, quiet, and smooth. He paid a little over $25k for it. My 65 Fastback with a 351-392 stroker will take it though. It (the 05) pulls pretty hard but the 65 just nails you into the seat and holds you there. After he gets some miles on it we'll go find out just how bad that 05 really is....
Yeah but with the addition of a little forced induction such as a centrifugal supercharger......your old 65 would be in serious trouble. Take into consideration that the 05 Mustang weighs about 3,700 lbs and only has 281 cubic inches of V8. The cammer motors respond extremely well to supercharging. I like the old school stangs myself but the 05 is definately a more viable car and with a little massaging would give your 65 a serious whoopin in a drag or a road race and still be blowing cold air in the process.
Level2..Sure... but if I spend the same on the iron lung, he's still behind. Granted the new car is more stable and quieter than my old car but my old 65 fastback shelby clone will turn heads just a quick and will always have curb appeal. I like the new car alot and would like to have one. I'm kinda stuck in a time warp and will always own an early stang (or many, today's count). My car is appreciating in value as a bonus.
well next year, if youve seen the issue of hot rod mag, they were talking about a proto ford made while sifting through the parts bin, the took the new mustang, and put a 351 v-10 in it. Which is somewhat euro stile with smaller pistons and stuff, they were gettin 4th gear cherps, and burning 3rd, and without all that traction they still squeezed an easy 0-60 in 4.4 sec, top speed somewhere around 176. And what i think they should do is put that motor in the lightning, with quad cam, and that super charger with the cooling procedure, witch is cooling the intake air with a A/C. But the new lighting is suposed to have bursts of 590 hp for about 45 sec, which should shwoop the srt 10 (pos) O and that musting is gonna be the BOSS 351, but the lightenting might have top speed of over 200! (possibly)
I seriously doubt a stock, roadworthy Mustang will ever see 200. The GT was just tested in at 200.1 I don't think the 'stang has a coefficient of drag anywhere near as slick as the GT. 140 in a Mustang GT? With 300 horse and, what, 330 torque, I have to say doubtful, but for certainty, some auto mag will soon test it and have certified numbers. The mustang is supposed to handle the last generation camaro/firebirds, which were fairly quick for their size.
Don't get to carried away with the Lightnings and Cobras, SVT is MIA.
SVT is not MIA. the new cobras will be out in late 2006 or early to mid 2007. i am hearing alot of things about them and i know that there are "test" cars on the road right now for the new cobra. they are testing a couple engins and one of them is a supercharged 5.4L. its a tuned down version of whats in the Ford GT and pushes about 465hp. there is also a rumor out that they might offer a auto trans option in the cobras. also ford is going to bump up the hp in the mustang GT in 2006 to about 320 or 325hp. both of the F150's i have right now will be paid off in summer of 2007 and then i am going to order my new cobra or mustang gt.
