I was wondering if you guys can help me. I had a dead battery in the truck. I went to boost and wasn't paying attention. I put cables on backwards. Wires started smoking. There is a wire that comes of the solenoid on the battery side that must have got hot cause it melted the insulation. It looks like there is a fuseable link and then it turns into two wires. The truck will turn over but i can't get any spark or acc. (radio, interior lights, etc.) Anyone know what I might have fried. I don't think it hurt my solenoid, or voltage regulator, or coil or did it?
With the key in run, see if you have voltage at the coil + terminal. Also see if you have 12 volts on the red wire at the ignition module. If you have voltage at the coil +, and at the module, then I would try a new module.
After you get it running, check and make sure it's charging. Also do a battery drain test. Usually a diode in the alternator will pop with reverse voltage.
