Promise you, it's NOT just like the stock one....

manderel bends make a big difference in flow characteristics....
but the boat anchor very restrictive muffler is the worst flow restriction for the least money, if tht's what your looking for...

John,
I had missed that you have an 04. There may be a considerable difference between the 04 and my 05. I know that my 05 has good manderel bends and obviously, the comments above indicate that the 04 does not. A turbo-back may make a difference for your truck.

Pete

I apologize for not being specific earlier, however, I'm certain even the 05 D/P is just 3" but the MBRP D/P is 3.5" feeding into the cat, then 4" all the way back. I have the Dual outlet muffler, but with my setup underneath, couldn't get the drivers side to line up and hang without hitting my hitch so I have the muffler twisted a little and have a turndown/elbow on the 2nd outlet right now until I get things straight with MBRP/MH to swap out the dual outlet for a single outlet.

I spent over $1000.00 on different exhaust setups on my 7.3 trying to bring down EGT and not one penney made a difference. All it did was make it louder in the truck. I refuse to waste my money on any exhaust changes on my 6.0.

Point taken....

I'm installing exhaust to get more power and faster turbo spool-up time.

I might have missed it somewhere along the way, but does (any) aftermarket exhaust improve performance (other than lower EGT)? Is there a HP difference between stock and aftermarket? I'm interested to know what the performance advantage to aftermarket exhaust is other than lower EGT.

Tampa250, you say you're installing to get more power and faster spool-up time. Is there hard data or is it all anecdotal?

Welcome MW !

A simple analogy that I have heard for years is that an engine is a glorified, albeit comples, AIR PUMP.....

The opening up of the exhaust to allow "freer" flow evacuates the burned charge faster and therefore allows a fresh "BURNABLE" power producing charge INTO the engine faster....

So yes, MOST freer flowing exhaust will give you a horsepower boost....

Check ANY comparison test on ANY motor head tv show or ANY ad for any exhaust system....

Even here on Motorhaven... - give them a call - they are very knowledgeable, very helpful, but most of all HONEST and straight shooters !

I second that. Any time you can get rid of the exhaust faster your "air pump", engine will be faster.

I really like the sound of my Magna-Flow exhaust.

I have the turbo-back system with a 4" DP and dual 4" tailpipes with 5" polished stainless tips, no cat, no muffler.

What is MBRP anyways?

Soon as I wash it again and have the digital handy I will post some pics!

I look forward to seeing your pics, Brian!

MW869, improved exhaust MOST CERTAINLY provides a performance increase and on our turbo-powered trucks, faster turbo spool time. The more efficiently air can get into and out of an engine- gas or diesel- the easier it is to extract more power from it.

Thanks guys. I totally get it that bigger / straighter / freer exhaust will allow more air to flow through the engine, and that's always better. I guess what I was asking was if there are hard numbers indicating power production since a lot of guys here are big on empirically testing and analyzing their set ups.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

<o></o>

I know different apps will produce different results, but I was curious if anyone at all had done some before and after dyno testing.<o></o>

Thanks<o></o>

Tampa, being that your in Tampa, I would consider the higher grade steel because of the humidity. I lived in North Palm for 2 years and I saw many cars that had more rust than anything you will find in Colorado.
Also I think the 04 came out with a much better downpipe that the 03 (stock) so a turbo-back - cat back might not make much difference. Maybe somebody has some experience with EGT that can fill us in.
