1949 F6

Does any one know how rare it is to have a 1949 ford F6 with a 254 Flat 6 and a Four speed transmisson back by an Aux three speed?

I would say it is rare. I've never seen one like that and I have look at alot of trucks. Put some pics of it on here so we can see it.

I am not sure about the three speed aux but the rest of the parts are factory for an F6. I found the data in the service manual. This is one of the vehicles I would like to find for a donor for the motor. That four speed should be synchronized four speed. Less gear grinding.

The 3 speed would be a Brown Lipe. Probably out of a larger truck. Not uncommon to see added behind the factory setup. Not original, however.

Chris, Not all the F-6's and up had the 4 speed synchro's. Some were still crash box trannys. Make sure you take the tranny codes off it to figure out if it's a synchro. Also you need to grab all the mounting and bellhousing, etc.. because it's different than what you have now. A buddy of mine swapped out the crashbox for a synchro here in Conn. and he needed all that stuff. He even had to make new driveshafts for his. It's 4 inches longer than the crashbox.

Ford F-6's that came with the 254 six came standard with the syncro tranny(T-98). The shift pattern for the syncro has the reverse position over and up, whereas the crashboT-9) was over and down. The VIN code should start out with 98MTH if it came with that engine/transmission combo.The T-98 was also an option on F-4 through F-6 with the 239 or 226 engine.
