pulling power

can any one tell me the reason that an auto trany
can pull more weight than a standard trany in a
ranger with a 4.0 is the standard trany a weak link in the drive train?

the torque converter is really mis-named, as it is really a torque-multiplier. about twice the torque output of a std. trans.
