Have a vibration that occurs when the truck goes over about 45MPH with the clutch engaged or when I press on the accelorator. If I coast down hill or have the clutch in the vibration goes away. I first thought it might be the tires, so I changed front and back tires with the same results. Also the fact that it goes away when you depress the clutch, makes me think it can't be the tires. Then I thought it was the clutch and replaced that, but it is still making the vibration noise. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Please add to the above message about the vibration:
The vehical is a 1992 Ford Ranger SuperCab 4X4 with a 4.0L V-6. Has just under 100K miles on it. Using tires with the same size and rating as new original set. No modifications to the body or engine have been made.
If you have a 2 piece driveshaft check the u-joints and carrier bearing.
My carrier bearing went out and caused a big vibration. The rubber was chewed up.
When I had it replaced I decided to grease the u-joints since the back one seemed stiff. It was frozen and had broken needle bearings inside. All of my u-joints are the same (86 2.9 xl) and $11 at Kragen. The carrier bearing was hard to find at Kragen and Autozone - had to order. I went to a long lived local parts house and got it for $25 and $20 to press it on the driveshaft.
Good luck
