i have a 1993 f-150 5.0/e4od and eveytime now for a few weeks now at startup it will make a clunk/knocking noise out of the motor i would assume. we checked the thrust bearing for play and its ok. i changed oil to a lighter weight(10w to 5w). the last thing i could think of would be rod bearings? it will only do it at first startup then if i kill it and start it again right away it wont, but if i let it sit for a while and start it it will knock?my shop teacher thinks its rod bearings and my uncle thinks its my timing(btw he said to check timing on FI motors you have to lock it in "base mode" is this true and how do you do it?)what do you guys think? i am stuck since it only knocks after i let it sit for a while
Also, everytime i put it in reverse and reverse only it will make a clunking noise, at first it sounded like my u-joint but then it got louder and lasted longer and it almost sounds like my flywheel. i am stuck on both of these clunks and i wish i knew what they were so i can fix them. please, anyinput is well appreciated, past expiriences, things to look for, ideas ect... thanks, Josh
