It's different, the disk brake spindle is cast with the caliper mounts. If converting to disks, you need to change the spindle as well. The spindles from a Granada or Monarch should fit right on, just need the tie rod end that matches the spindle. -TD
so if i converted my front drums to disks, i can use my stock drum spindles if i get the caliper mount brackets, right? all the disk conversion kits sell you calipers, rotors, caliper mount brackets, pads, ect. but no spindle. im thinkin about converting to front disks but the kits are 900$ at least. if i buy all the parts seperate (stock replacements) i could save a few hundred $$. i just dont know if the calipers they sell for the conversion kits are the same bolt patern as originals. so if i get a stock 66 caliper, would it fit the aftermarket mounting brackets they sell with the disk conversion kits (i can buy just the brackets seperate) basicly i want to do a conversion but dont wanna pay 900$$ for the kit if i can buy the parts stock and save a few hundred $$- i get a parts store discount.
You can do the conversion yourself with all scrounged parts, that's why I mentioned that about the Grenada/Monarch in my earlier post. They are easy to find, the spindles bolt right on in place of the stock Mustang spindles. You need: the spindles, calipers, rotors, and tie rod ends off of any late '70s/'80s Grenada or Mercury Monarch. -TD
ive been roaming junkyards for years and never saw a monarch or granada. where are all these cars at? im in illinois here. ya ive heard of the grnada swap but there isnt any in the junkyards here. the average car in the yard here is a 93. all the good old ones are already melted down.
I got a Monarch and a Grenada about 10 years ago just for hauling them away. I haven't really been looking for them in more recent years, but they built so many that there are still a lot of them out there. Don't look in the wrecking yards, look in people's yards and fields. If you find one that's been sitting for a while, offer to haul it off. Then strip it and junk the remains. -TD
