OK, the consensus is that the 390 should get headers, but I keep hearing all this and that about header fasteners not staying torqued. Please reply with what works once and for all (if that can be accomplished) when it comes to installing headers correctly. Also, add your suggestions as to what brand header is good for the long haul. Truck is a 76 F-150 Ranger SuperCab 8' bed 2 WD with a 2 BBL 390.

Well, I just use standard Grade 8 bolts, available at any hardware store. I tighten 'em down real tight, and they stay put. I also use Hedman Headers, and have yet to have an issue with them.
Use lock-washers. Because I'm running the edelbrock heads and the FPA that use almost 4 bolts per cylinder, I can tighten down with my fingers almost enough to avoid leaking. I didn't put lock washers on before, and they tend to vibrate loose. Even with several missing bolts, no leaks.
Just use the bolts with lockwashers that come with the headers. Tighten to 30ftlbs and your all set. They should not come loose dont worry about em.
I wouldnt bother with FPA's, unless you want to spend $700 on headers. I got some dynomax headers for Christmas and they work good. They fit perfectly and bolted up with no issues.

the Dynomax were a nightmare in my 69 F250, C6 auto with the Bendix box. They may have made some improvements/changes or maybe it's just the Bendix box issue. I never did get mine to fit right or seal. The FPAs: I tighten up by finger, then snug slightly with a small 1/4" ratchet. Never leaked, even with bolts missing. The FPA are pricey (more like $625 or so). But with Ceramic coating and a 3/8" flange, I don't worry much.
the Dynomax I had were also ceramic coated. And probably would have lasted if it weren't for the fitment issues. Maybe, I just got a bad set.
