tire chains.
tire chains.
K this is my shortest question ive ever posted here. since i have four wheel drive, is it better to put snow chains on the front or back tires? My brother said i could borrow his that are the same size if i plan on going up the canyon or something, but i just wanna know in case i cant get my hands on the other set.
Technically, you should have chains on all four wheels, if you feel you need to install chains. If you only put them on the front, you risk spinnig out, since the back won't have near the traction of the front (Same thing can be said for front wheel drive cars). Your safer with them only on the rear, but then you're not taking full advantage of your front drive wheels.
BTW, I notice you're from UT. They just recently started an FTE chapter for us. If your interested, check out the chapter forum.

I think whatMrShorty is saying is that it's bloody dangerous to put chains on the fronts only because you risk the rear breaking loose and spinning you around. That's certainly true on paved roads. If you restrict the use of chains to off-road and slow speeds you may be better off with them on the front to ensure that you do retain the ability to steer. I also think that it makes sense to use chains on all four wheels, which is what I do. Thus equipped, I can drive circles around other trucks in the snow. Otherwise you've converted your 4x4 into a 2X4.
