I've got a 67 fairlane GT-390 and need a set of good headers.Does anyone know what would be a good set that would fit without modifications? The engine compartment is tight. With the big block and shock towers there is little wiggle room.I have a set of hookers on it now but they are old and rusted and need replaced.I bought the car with them in place and when they were put on it looks like they used quite a bit of hammer work on them to make them work.I'm using 16 bolt exhaust heads.I'd like to find aluminum or ceramic coated as it would look a lot better.
Russ, how about talking to Stan at Ford Powertrain Applications ? He makes a lot of Ford and Fe stuff and should be able to help you out. Lots of the mustang FE guys seem happy with his pipes. DF
The FE powered cars are a tight fit. Stan at FPA will know wether or not he can fit your application (hence the name, Ford Powertrain Applications) HE is very knowledgeable about FEs and the vehicles they go in.
They are not cheap. ABout $450 without Ceramic coating, $625 or so with coating. Prices may be different for car apps.
Sanderson makes a great block hugger set. The bare steel ones are a very good value at about $250.00. I retrofitted a 390 into a 1953 F-100 and they were the only ones that would really work well with a steering box changeout. OK, actually they are a bit more but my sister who lives in the San Fran area walked in with $250.00 cash and they loaded them into her car (no shipping, no sales tax. She was wearing a short skirt and the welder handled the transaction himself.) But, the header fit was so good I would have covered the extra charges. You won't be disappointed. And, no, you can't meet my sister.

That's just not fair! you bring up a girl that wears short skirts and obviously has some knowledge about exhuast headers for an FE motor. I need to meet this woman! tell her , I am reasonably well funded and very open minded :-)
