I have a 1996 Ranger and need to find the autolock hubs for it. The 4 wheel drive won't go all the way in and is hard to get out when it does.
If you have any ideas on where to get aftermarket new ones or a good set of used ones please let me know via e-mail. Thanks in advance.
Doug
Have you tryed to clened them up, on my 94 Explorer, one of them was not engaging properly,so I rinsed it clean with solvent and put back bearing grease into it. Since that it's been working fine. On a web site a guy talked about just changing the bearing inside the assembly, if you want to try it I will get you the adress, because I dont have it on hand.
Ok so you've experianced a weak link. The autos SUCK what i did was replace them with manuals in my 94. They always engage and disengage whaen i want them to. It realy sucks that the wheel has to get at least a 1/2 turn before they'll lock in. What do ya do if your already stuck? Nothing cuz your XXXX (edited by Admin for by passing language filters)ed
Just replaced the Auto Lockers with manuals. Easy job to do. Cost around $250.00, both sides. Was quoted a price from ford around $380.00 a hub assembly. I was tired of the auto hubs banging, slipping and not fully unlocking. I miss the "conveinance" of flipping a switch or lever from inside the cab, but I feel better knowing when I need 4WD, it will be there.
I also had the same problem with my 96 Auto hubs. Changed them out with Mile Marker Manuel Hubs and the conversion kit at Autozone ($161.00) and had Midas install them ($75.00). They work awesome especially for my hunting retreats in Arkansas.
