hey guys. just installed a sp diesel exhaust brake. my prob is that i cant find the TC wire under the hood to splice it.... for the tc lockup feature. any help? i know its purple w/yellow stripe...
I am very interested in this too - I want to put in a manual TC lock switch - but haven't been able to "for sure" find the right wire?? Is there any way to test it to see if you have the correct purple wire?? There's a couple that run down to the trans. if I'm not mistaken???
"sean" was able to tell me that it was in a "bad spot" to photograph... and that it has a nice lil yellow pin stripe on it.. but there are 5 diff harnesses in my 03. and i have no idea which one to hunt through. also which side of harness do i splice into
?
sean is the guy who sold me this on ebay... spdiesel.com also
According to the diagrams, you are looking for a purple (violet) wire with a yellow stripe, coming off of the PCM. It shows it coming from a 5 wire connector, but I'm not sure about this...The diagram isn't very clear.
Anyways, just find the purple/yellow wire coming from the PCM. There will only be one, and that will be what you need.
Hey Guys - I couldn't find that silly wire anywhere under the hood, even though it is supposed to be there. BUT - I did find it back near the transmission. I split the wire loom where the wires go over the cross member from the tranny to the frame - and (on my 2002) there was only ONE purple wire w/ yellow tracer going to the tranny - even though the one web site I got directions from said that there were a couple. I DID have 3 purple wires, but the tracers were all different colors - only one yellow. I spliced into it and ran a wire up into the cab, and hooked up my voltmeter and took it for a drive, to check that I had the right wire. Sure enough - first try!! Sorry for the paragraph - but I just wanted to share where I managed to find it! Good luck!

Well, glad to hear you found it. It's odd that its not under the hood anywhere...did you check all the terminals coming from the PCM?

O I'm sure it's there somewhere, but heck if I could find it!? Not to mention that there isn't exactly a lot of room down around where all those connections are under the master cylinder. Either way I got it - thanks for the help!
Think i'm going to do the torque converter wire mod, do I need a special switch or will any two way on\off switch do? Anything special about this or is it as cut and dry as it looks? Thanks guys!
SMiller - I just used a standard on/off type switch (like you would use to turn lights on and off). The TC wire is live, and the PCM grounds out the wire to lock the torque converter. SO - all I did was tie a wire into the TC wire, run it to a switch, and run a ground to the other side of the switch. When I throw the switch, it grounds out the TC wire and locks the TC - simple as that. When the switch is off, the PCM can still lock the TC just like before.
ok... heres where im at... im under the hood now. i see a plug in harness between the master cylinder and the fenderwell... it has 2 violet with yellow tracer wires.. one is in slot 1. the other i didnt check. can i tap splice one of these? im using the sp diesel exhaust brake... lemme know what you guys think.
did it about a month ago now, pretty sweet and if you drive around with it locked all the time until your down to about 10 MPH I have discoverd that the tranny NEVER gets above 140* I have to unlock it and drive around to get it to heat up. It sounds pretty cool to.
CAT MAN you need to hurry up and do this, I wanna know how your sounds with 5" pipes, mine will sound like a cummins at any rpm below 1000, if that good or bad IDK but i like it.
I cut and tapped the TC lock wire (purple with yellow tracer on my 2000 PSD) by
tracking the correct wire from the plug located on the drivers side fender well down to
a reasonable work location near the floorboards on the drivers side. I split the loom open
to see which wire i was wiggling at the top and then cut it. The reason I had to track the wire
is there are THREE purple with yellow tracers in my wire harness, and they all three
go to the tranny, but to different functions.
There are 4 connectors underneath the brake master cylinder. 3 black ones and one grey one
You want PIN-6 of the forward most GREY connector. Pinout is as follows: (4) (3) (2) (1)
(8) (7) (6) (5)
(12)(11)(10)(9)
(16)(15)(14)(13)
