Interesting. On my 97 there were three blacks and one gray, but the purple wire with yellow tracer was on one of the black connectors, and it wasn't pin 6, I had to figure out which connector was for the tranny, lucky there was only one purple/w yellow wire in that bundle, so that made it easy.
As for the two wires that you are looking at I would check to see if either of them are hot when it is running, or at least with the key on. my guess is that one of them will be, and that is the one you want. if you pull the connector apart and check it, make sure you check the end goin to the tranny.
which bundle do i look in? sorry im new at this.. dont wanna mess up... also dont have any way to check to see if its hot... i hate tryin to poke and hope i have 5 bundles mounted on the fenderwell.. 3 black and 2 grey, and i have 3 bundles on a black upright on the inside of the fender.. which look like they run down to the tranny. 2 black and 1 grey...

Smiller has the best idea, if you dont wanna worry about messing something up, then tap into it right off of the tranny. On the passenger side towards the rear there is an electrical connector, its actually on the top/side, but you will see it. look there and you should find this illusive wire you are trying to find. tap into it there, will take a little more wire to route into the cab, but you will know you have the right wire.
Well it was super easy, did it right off the ecm 444dieselrod was right, it's the grey loom, the only grey loom, it's the second set of wires you have and it's 3 down, it is the only purple with yellow wire there is in that loom, really simple! My problem now is that my check engine light came on after driving for about 10min. So I am going to disconect the battery and re-set the computer with the wire un-hooked and see if that fixes the problem. Hopefully that fixes it. I have a lot of line pressure so it jumps forward when I flip the switch, I mean lunges the truck forward!!! With the tq locked the truck shifts at about 1200rpm in each gear, just really bogs the truck in each gear. Would be kinda cool if it was a diesel?! Truck does shift a little harder but I like that. Anybody know why im getting a check engine light?
been under truck... split wire loom found two purples with yellow stripes... one had a lil thin stripe and one had a wider one... im gonna tap one of these.. can i get an opinion on which one?
ok... found right wire... the tc lock works... but u cant use it while foot is on brake at start... it acts like im chokin down.. wondered if this is normal... oh yeah it also lugs the fool outta the engine.. it was the purple wire with the more broad stripe.....
That makes no sense, if you are stoped and your foot is on the brake the truck will die as soon as you flip the switch. The purple wire has a very thin yellow stripe, go back up to the engine comparment near the ecm, there are three black looms and one grey one, it's the grey one, the is one purple with yellow wire it is in the second line of wires and is the therd one down, look at 444dieselrods diagram and it will make sense, you will be able to have your foot on the brake and flip the switch, if you flip the switch while stoped or near stoped it will kill the truck faster then you can flip the switch back.
That isnt my diagram, or even my dicovery. I just found it and gave the link, so I dont deserve the credit.
With a diesel you can lock it at 5mph and not stall the engine, from a dead stop if I lock it, it will stall the engine, if I pull the shifter down to first gear and lock it, it doesnt seam to lock, if I bump it to second, with my foot on the brake, it will stall the engine, so I wonder if there is something in the tranny that cuts the lockup in first gear.
SMiller I don't know why you would get a light. I have never had problem with it, but you have a gasser, and I wonder if that is casuing it to "knock", frm the lugging of the engine, and maybe that is tripping a light.
