Hi there
Just wondering if anyone out there can give me some ideas to a problem I seem to be having with my 2004 6.0l powerstroke.
The problem is when I start off from a standstill and start accelerating it almost seems like it is flooding itself. I have to work the accelerator and once it seems to catch and take off I'm leaving a trail of black smoke. I'm wondering if this could be a start of an injector problem. I've replaced the fuel filters about 1000km's ago. I have no water in the fuel. And there are only 43,820km's on the truck.
Thanks

Well, I guess we need more details Auto/manual....past history.......tuner, fuel box...or stock? Need more info so we can direct you some. Build date of the engine, you will find that on the drivers side vavle cover.
If anything else and your not sure, the VIN can be run to find out what has been done.
Sorry about that it's an automatic, I have the Edge Juice chip in it. 4" Turboback Magnaflow exhaust, afe air filter. I'll get back to you with the engine build date.
Thanks
If the low boost fuel setting is on a higher position with the Edge, the smoke is normal. Just as Max said, it is nothing more than overfueling, and will get the truck rolling faster. As for the funny-feeling pedal, once again, it is just the nature of the beast- this is what most people refer to as "turbo lag" (with this vehicle, it is both turbo and computer lag). All of them with tuning devices behave in this manor and nothing seems wrong at all.
Keep your foot through the firewall and enjoy your new-found smoke
How you are applying the throttle? Does the truck have the flooded feel when you just slowly press down the throttle and roll off the line or does it happen more when you mash down the throttle harder for a faster getaway off the line?
What happens if you hold down the brake pedel and add a bit of throttle to build some boost before you pull away from a stop?
Does it do it when you don't have the Edge installed?
And of course, WELCOME to the site, please read the Guidelines… Check out the list of forums and make sure you read the headings and Read First: notices in each forum.

The Edge Juice is not a chip. There are zero chips for the 6.0 because the 6.0's computer does not have a service port to accept a chip. Chips (such as on the 7.3L diesel) are able to reprogram the transmission as well. The Edge is a fueling module that basically fools the computer into raising injection pressure and doesn't program the tranny, often resulting eractic shifts at the higher settings. We used to carry fueling boxes before Diablo and Superchips had programmers and rejoiced when we could finally drop them.
That overflooding feel happens when I slowly press down on the pedal. When I quickly press down on the pedal, it sounds rough for about a second, then clears up. I found that it did also do it a little bit before the Edge was installed. Now with the Edge installed it is happening more often. Also I did find that when it would start doing this, if I shut off the motor and then started it right back up. It would run great after that. However, more recently I am finding that shutting it off and turning it back on, isn't doing the trick like it used to.
I am the original owner of this truck. I have had the Edge in for around 3 months now. Like I said lately is that I have really noticed the overflooding problem.
I wish I could blow more black smoke...my stock truck is pretty clean, I can only see the cloud at night. Sometimes a ricer needs their cabs filled w/ thick black choking smoke to let em' know not to pass on the right and cut off superduties. (The darn things sit so low they can't tell how bottle necked traffic can be.)The black smoke I've seen only happens at a standstill. Do the tuners (pred, scmt) do this like the fuel modules?
My SCMT doesn't blow any smoke unless I've been idling for quite a while or doing nothing but my normal 4 miles forth and back to work. Then the first time or so that I really trounce on it it will puff some smoke in 1st gear a time or two.
After that it burns clean and you can't get it to do it at stop lights anymore.
I'm glad I don't have the "not enough smoke" problem
Actually, I'm getting a little tired of mine...it smokes taking off from a stop even at very light throttle...MIGHT have something to do with tuning, but who knows
Oh well...I have my new, second rig now...I'll post some pictures on here soon

If you traded in your original truck I hope no one asks for the OASIS.....it probably would put a print out 12' long......or did you keep it....
