I was talking to a friend the other day and he was up in the air about when to change his spark plugs.
He has a 5.4L and has coil pack problems and feels his plugs may play a role in the packs giving him trouble.
Does anyone think that he may have a point? He put Bosch plat. in his Expedition around 30,000 mi. ago.
I don't want to start a debait on plugs, I personally feel he should have used motorcraft. But at what mileage should one change the plugs out?
I asked the parts store and they say around 35,000, others say 60,000, some say, " wait until ya get slugish response".
Not so sure now...

The manual for a 2003 says the plugs are good for 100k.
If you replace them with Platnium, then 80-100k is ok. If you use standard plugs, then 30k is a about time. Also at any time you feel sluggishness or poor fuel economy, would hurt to swap them out. Plugs are cheap.
I have been haunting various Ford Expedition boards for almost six years. I have never heard anyone complain about spark plug performance when the replacement plugs were factory Motorcrafts. OTO, I've read more than a few complaints from those who used other plugs, particularly Bosch. Not rock-hard evidence, but just a thought.

Sorry about that. I avoid dealer and shops like the plague unless I absolutely have to go there. I will do these myself when the time comes. I've read it takes about 1.5-2 hours to do it. The cost of the plugs should not be more than $35. and the labor is free. Gets me away from the kids for a few hours. :-)
The really tough ones are in the back of the engine. I believe someone posted the instructions on this board. A search may be useful.
