In 2000 I bought my 95 F150 for $6900 with 73k miles on it. I think I got a good deal on it at the time. Nothing fancy, only options it has is A/C. Other than that everything is the basic stuff. Got it just the way I wanted it too. The 300, manual windows/locks, rear sliding window, 8 foot bed, manual trans. Now I have 133k miles on it. So 60k miles in 4 years isn't too bad and I'll prolly drive it for another 4 years at least. Its starting to rust now, but when you live in michigan almost all 10 year old vehicles have rust starting to form. I figure if I where to sell it now I would prolly ask $2500 for it. So thats about $1000 a year i've paid for it. You sure can't be that.
My dads 92 F150 was bought in 1998 for $4200 with 92k miles on it at that time. It now has 170k miles on it. Almost same truck as mine. His 300 still runs great. I know he couldn't get more than $1000 for it now, it has a fair amount of rust on it. With these trucks you just can't beat the dollar to year value it costs when you buy them.
This truck, 93 F-150 XLT S/C 302, 2WD, was bought in 95 by my dad for like $12 Grand. It had 60K on it. Now it has 152K. Hope it gets fixed soon.... Only thing I dont like is the side looks. Looks like ford kept the same side styling for a while, but kept changing the front end looks.
Gave$1000 and a worn out Ranger for my '87 f250 4x2 w/68k miles nearly 3 yrs ago. body is solid except for a rear wheel well(puddied),has never let me down and runs strong.Nothing fancy and no real extras but I love my old truck.Takes me back to the days when I was a kid and going hunting/fishing w/dad in his old trucks(not all that old at the time). If I ever part w/this truck I will likely replace it w/another older truck.
i just got my 89 f-250 about a month ago. it sat in a garage for five years not running. today i just hauled about 2000 pounds of dirt in the bed with no problem. i paid 950 for it and i really can't complain.
My 90 F150 lariat ext cab has been good to me also. I bought it 3 years ago with 120k. It has 147k now and still strong. I have had to fix a few things, but nothing major. The 300 six and 5 speed are still good. It is getting pretty rusty, but power windows and factory air still work. I don't drive it much now, but it comes in handy to haul firewood, move friends stuff and tow the boat up north.
yep, these old trucks are the best. i bought my first truck (1990 f150) a couple of years ago, for next to nothing and drove the hell out of it, great truck(gutless, but great). and i just replaced it with a 91 bronco, i wont buy anything newer, i like these older trucks, and after 91 they put in airbags, so ireally dont want 'em!
if memories were worth dollars, no one would be able to buy them or take them in trade
even a mechanical idiot like myself (with a little encouragement from here), can open the hood and understand what he sees. Sort of.
We value something that's loyal and trustworthy
Our wives complain about the harsh ride and lack of amenities...and we're OK with that. Anyone with a job and a life expectancy of over 60 months can buy a new one.
Your kids and dogs love your truck as much as you do.
You carry tools, a tow rope, and chains at all times, praying for a pretty girl in a Mercedes that needs to be rescued.
Your neighbor shows up in a new Lexus, and all you can do is look at your pickup and grin. See the previous paragraph.
The same neighbor asks to borrow your pickup to get barkdust...and, you're still grinning.
You call your neighbor (the one with the Lexus) when the first snowstorm hits, and offer to drive him/her to the closest bus stop. Your still grinning.
I guess I'm lucky. Spouse doesn't complain about the ride. She says "its a truck, what does anyone expect". She'll hop in anytime for a ride. But, as it is a '93 F-250 4x4, she needs a step stool to get in and out. I gotta get step rails for it.
These are all great posts ! I'm 42 and remember living in Virginia in 1989 telling my wife "Only stupid grits/rednecks have trucks - you'll NEVER see me in a truck" boy did I eat those words (or did I turn into a Redneck ?) .
I had a new '93 toyota (too small), then bought a '97 F-150 brand new when they came out. 'twas a terrible truck..all of its defects were covered by warranty, but I sure wasn't used to going to the dealer so often..sold it after a few years...
Intermingled with the above I've owned
'74 Chevy Cheyenne Super-20
'68 Chevy truck
'77 F-150 extended cab I-6 manual 3-on-the-tree
'74 F-150
About a year ago in Seattle I bought my '92 f-150 ext cab w/302 160K miles for $4800 with a pristine interior. I love this truck (wife barely tolerates it) and will probably never get rid of it since I really like 'square' body style. I need to get off my **** and put in that new oil pan gasket, tho....
Got my 90 F250 4x2 w/ 460 and A4OD with 100K on it and mint(CA. truck) , shell, fully loaded, rebuilt tranny, very well maintained by older guy who used to tow his trailer w/ it for $2600. doesnt burn or leak a drop of anything! Love the ride too, very roomy. Heinz

I'm glad I'm not the only one. When I met my wife I had a Mercedes 280SL and a nice apartment in town with a killer view of the city lights. I guess we change.
I bought my '93 F150 XL SB 4x4 5 litre 94,000 miles 5 speed with AC Cruise & chrome package, 2" lift, Off road package with quad shocks and skid plates for $5000 Canadian (about $4200 US). Cosmetically it's perfect, but I'm working out all the bugs in it like hydraulic problems in the clutch, heater core, leaky rad, broken interior door latch handle, bad headlight switch, cracked dash pad. I suppose that new truck buyers would freak out and think that I bought the biggest piece of crap. I looked at a lot of trucks and this was the best of the batch for the price. I suppose that these problems would cost a lot if I couldn't fix them myself, but I just have to set aside the time to fix them. I've had a '96 F150, and a '98 F150 but I like this style of truck. It wasn't worth spending an extra 5,000 or so to get the '97-03 style. The 4.6 litre motor in my '98 had less power than the 5 litre in my '93. In response to the guy who asked what these drive like when they are new; I drove my '96 right off the lot , and it drove the same as my '93 does. In this part of the world, if you like Chevys or Dodges, you can only get high mileage, stripped down, 6 cylinder 2x4's for the same price that I paid for my Ford.
