The cover on the bed light/stop lamp is retaining moisture. My natural instinct is to check it out. Removed 2 screws but, cover won't budge in any direction and seems to be fastened somewhere else. Anyone have experience? I haven't justified the price for a shop manual from a dealer yet and have not found a specific Haynes or Chiltons (although I have found inconsistencies with these manuals in the past!).
The two screws should be all that is holding it in, however what some have done to stop the 3rd brake light from leaking is to silicone it on or use stuff that is even more difficult to remove. Did you buy the truck used?
I siliconed mine in and then the day after one of the bulbs burned out (go figure), in order to get it off I had to use a flathead screw driver and give it a little pry. Yours might need a little "convincing" as well, but if you do this do it carefully! Good Luck.
I have a 05 F150 crew cab and have removed the light to route the satellite radio wire. I just removed the two screws and pryed up carefully as not to crack the lens or chip the paint. Maybe just stuck with the gasket.
im sure its got some sort of silicone or rtv in there. I had mine done under warranty and they put that sucker back in so thight with all that goop that i broke the lens trying to get it out to change a bulb 6 months later. I recomend using a razor blade around the outside to try and break that seal
Thanks for all the comments! The first time I pried on it, I cracked the flange (damnit!) so, I'll try the razor blade around the outside before prying again.
