"special" shock absorbers

What is so different about the rear shocks on a 98 naavigator with LLS?
These seem to be dealer only items.

I actually only need the bushings, and these seem rarer still.

LLS travel must be limited to prevent blowout of air bags. The shocks have, I'm told, a "hydrolock" feature, where a hydraulic lock engages near the end of extension travel.

The shocks act as a suspension droop limiter. Most shocks will do that. I don't know why Ford specified a hydrolock.

I just went through this on my 02 Navigator and have detailed research on shock travel, lengths, ends, part numbers, and all that.

Procomp and Rancho have shocks that will work (MX6, RS9000X, RSX, etc.) even though they are not specified. Bilstein has a shock that is specifically stated to work.

I can provide all the data after the holidays. For now, I am traveling.

JAMES.
