Lightbulb Heater Improvment

So with the cold snap hittng lately up here in the midwest all our vehicles are getting tested to the bitter end.

I am thinking nothing is wrong (necessarily) with the heater core and all the workings of the heater. But I was hoping that someone could give me some tips on trying to improve my truck to push out hotter heat.

I was on an hour trip yesterday with it right around -1 F. and it seemed to never truly warm up in my truck ('02 SCrew 4.6) It seemed I had to change it from floor to defrost to panel just to keep warm and dfrost windows. Is it something with the tharmostat, should I put cardboard infront of the radiator (what are thoughts on that also, smart, dumd idea?) Change radiator fluid. Thoughts, Ideas, criticize me whatever!

Merry X-Mas and Happy New Year to all and to all a good night.

No idea what your problem might be, but I would definitely say NO to the cardboard in the grill. Does your temperature guage get to the mid-point of the scale ? If the temperature guage rises to normal temp, then you should have lots of heat, if not, them you may well have a stuck thermostat (staying open). There are usually at least two temperature ratings on thermostats (summer, winter) but this only regulates when the thermostat opens. A winter thermostat will get your truck warmed up faster, but won't make it any warmer.

I wouldn't think -1 F would be overly cold for your heating system, and the heater should be able to keep up. You mjight want to get the cooling system checked just to be sure.

I find with my 99 Super cab that when the temp goes below 0 I need to keep the fan on 2 or 3 preferably 3 to keep windows clean and temp comfortable. Thease trucks are large interior volume and need air movement to keep good circulation. My truck will almost burn your hand with the fan on high. I am in Sioux Falls SD and it is cold here too.

99' F150 4.6L heater

In one of these post it said to turn the fan on 3-4. Will this actually cause the heat to feel warmer. This truck does not seem to warm the cab very well either. I will try turning the fan higher. I thought with wind chill this would cause the air to feel cooler.

I have a 2000 4.2 standard cab and my heater is very weak.
Even after 10-15 miles of driving you have to have the heater running max just to stay comfortable.
With just the reg cab the heater should drive you out of there with heat.
I have a ditigal thermometer that I am going to check out the discharge temp after the truck is warmed up.
I just bought the truck with 68k and it might need a raidiator flush and fill.

i had heat problems on a 97...never really warmed up enough.
Bought a winter front shield/summer bug screen. Works great. Use the solid vinyl grille cover when its below freezing, and the bug screen in the summer.
You get a few extra degrees of heat in winter, like having an adjustable thermostat.
It snaps on and off easily. I have moved this thing onto three trucks over the years, 97, 2001, & 2003. Best thirty dollars i ever spent. Good luck.
