I just saw on the news that some lady in California (I think) paid $60,000.00 to have her dead cat cloned. The new cat was in her arms meowing and she seemed pretty happy about it.
Didn't we go through this with Dolly the sheep and wasn't it agreed upon that it was a bad idea? What if the cat has a genetic defect and mates with others?

saw it also what the heck is going on in this world or is this old fart getting to old? mother nature should not be screwed with she always, always wins in the end, 60's boy what i could do with that, like pay off my house and new truck
you got it , i would never have had a now late ex wife and stayed a member of the miliatary full time, had it made in there, room, board, pay and a lot of seeing the world [navy] old mind new body i could go for that but not spend 60 gs
If I were wealthy enough to have my Siamese ... Tippy ... cloned before she had to be put to rest, I would have done it without a second thought. She was with me for 22+ years and a most devoted and loving pet, with more intelligence than anyone could imagine.
Then she wasted her $60k. I don't have any problem with cloning of pets. I had a Staffordshire bull terrier that I would have cloned in a minute- except for I am minus the $60K. Pets are an invauable extension of the family/ if not a member of the family . If she thinks it is worth her $60k than it is. Health risks are something that we take whenever we purchase a pet- as nothing is set in stone. I am happy if she is happy. I wouldn't mind cloning a pet in the future if they get the price down. I had around $10k in my Rottweiler- I had the money at the time. If I had the money again I certainly wouldn't be scared to lay that kind of money on a pet. People get into the eithics about breeding , yet almost all animals bred today are changed through a number of variables to be superior breeds- so cloning is not the only way of changing, it them just happens to be the newest frontier and therefore debatable. I agree with fordlover1951 , I have yet to have a spouse stay with me 15 years and 15 years of never treating me like hell. Pets provide unconditional love and friendship- they are really priceless. I have seen many people spend that kind of money on a vehicle which is a mere piece of metal that gets you from point A to B, they don't blink an eye because for some reason they feel better doing so.

I understand your guys attitude about your pets but I think it is wrong because after this is accepted whats next my spouse died think I will just have her/him cloned. I know it's sad but let the dead rest in piece it will never be the same even a clone, personalitly is learned not inherited to a greater or lesser degree.
I think you are cheating those that are legit. A poor analogy, but it's like a radio station that plays the same song over and over again to the exculsion of new songs. The original was great, but to deny others their chance at life is wrong. By that I mean that there are plenty of others who are alive in less then ideal (loving) environments and one individual choose to spend $60K on a dead dream when there was plenty of new life to choose from is close minded and selfish. (I want and I shall have.)
I had a st bernard I would have cloned in a heart beat I would spend about $5,000 to have it done. she was with us for 12 years and the most loyal pet!!
she even rode on the trackhoe with me & everything else.

It's a dead end.
I totally agree.
Death is a natural part of life that is supposed to occur. When something dies it makes room for something new.
One thing about pets that a lot of people should remember. There ain't no shortage of em!!
I have never paid for a dog or a cat, and plenty of good ones have found their way into our lives.

Personally, I think it's a waste of money, but it's her money. I'm also concerned about where this may lead. What kind of problems may lay ahead when these animals reproduce?
Some people seem to think that when an animal (or human) is cloned, that the resulting animal is the same creature. It isn't. It's the equivalent of a twin. At best it's a twin, if the cloning procedure was perfectly acomplished. We don't know what kind of 'defects' might be involved. I suppose you would get an animal that's as close to the origional as possible, though. Still a completely different animal. The personality/soul/spirit of the origional is gone.
Someone suggested cloning a spouse. If someone did that, they would have a baby that was a "twin" of their spouse. What would be the purpose in that? Monsterbaby, I think I'm agreeing with you here.
Well, as others have said here, there's no shortage of pets out there already. Rescue one.
I have three rescued cats and two dogs right now and I love them all dearly. Regardless of the thoughts projected above ... if I had the money ... IF ..... and I had the chance to clone my now deceased Siamese, I still would do it without a second thought. And I have my animals spayed or neutered. You just don't get it ... but I'm not going to try to make you understand that when someone or something is uniquely special, even to only one person, it is worth duplicating.
