Anybody have a picture of the correct setup for a throttle return spring for a 1950 Ford with a 226 flathead 6 cylinder? I did some looking today and the only spring acting as return spring is the accelerator spring. This is not returning the truck to idle when the accelator is released even with the linkage off the carb. I have a DSl connection so a 2-3mb file is fine no need to edit the picture unless you want to.
Can't help you on the specifics of the '50 but the carburetor throttle shaft springs (or the accelerator pump spring) are never the sole source of return. The pedal and/or the linkage always have their own return spring.
NHRA requires 2 springs outside the carburetor, too.
Mine is a V8, but there is a spring going toward the front of the engine on mine, attached to the generator bracket. Probably not stock, but I am going to leave it. Where is your other heater core outlet? Mine are one above the other on the firewall. Maybe different for a six?
