V-10 engine block heater

Thanks for the previous information regarding V-10s and altitude. The v-10 sounds like the way to go given my pulling needs (or lack thereof) I was reading on the horrors of starting a 6.0 in cold weather with or without an engine block heater. Do v-10s accept block heaters or are they superfluous for start-up temperatures above 10 degrees? Do they decrease engine wear at start-up or have any other benefit Thanks for all the information so far!

Not sure if the block will accept a heater, someone else will be along to say for sure; if it doesn't, you can put one in the water hose.

When I had Class 8 diesels I used them all the time and they have to help reduce engine wear on start-up due to quicker oil pressure plus faster warm-up meaning less time at a rich mixture which is washing cylinders and diluting the oil.

My V-10 has started in temps down to minus 13 F with no help, and that's after sitting for days, but if you can use a heater I think there is a definite benefit.

My experience has been you only have to heat an engine for a few hours, so use a heavy duty timer or plug it in manually a few hours prior to start-up.

Upon specing my truck when I was looking for a new rig, there was, in my 03' V10 anyway, a option for a block heater from the factory.

Live in Central Texas so there is no compelling need for this option and Ford does not add it as Standard item. But I ordered my truck with it as it was only $50 or so and I get two benifits. Warm air before end of driveway, confidence that cold weather startup has full oil flow. (I know with multi-vis modern lubs this is not a issue but I like to think I am doing my motor right feeding it warm fluids at start up)

My 2001 V-10, which was bought in Anchorage, Alaska, came new with the block heater. The dealer selected it as an option on all of his vehicles.

Does it help? It can't hurt and like said above, the heater is happier faster.

Thumbs up Block Heater

I live here in norhcentral Mt, my 2000 F250 has a block heater, but
unfortunately, my older house doesn't have an outside outlet to plug it in. What I can tell you is my V-10 will start at temp's below -30 degrees F, that's without the wind chill involved. I did it last winter before I left to go to Hawaii. I was hesitant but had no issues concerning not being able to plug it in although I would like to, due to wear issues etc.
