Problem with gauges

I have a 2001 Expy EB, 5.4. Occasionally when I start the engine (especially on real cold mornings or when the truck has sat for a couple of days) all of the gauges will go crazy. The speedometer will register 100 mph, the battery gauge will go to zero, etc. This will last about 2 seconds and all gauges then return to normal. Took the truck to autozone and had battery and alternator tested. They both checked out good. Anyone have ideas as to what could be causing this. Ford tells me the battery may be weak on cold cranking amps. If this is true would the battery and alternator check good when the truck has been running a while? The first time this happpened was back in October when the weather was still warm but my boys were in the truck watching a movie for about an hour and a half with the engine off. Next morning it did this for the first time. After that no problems until the weather turned cold. This is my wife's vehicle and don't want her to get stranded. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have repeatedly read of this problem. In every case changing the battery cured it.

It apparently is the computer reseting itself and happens after you remove power from the car and reapply it.

You might want to check out other forums as well and you'll see it's a popular complaint.

Need to ask if there is anything specific I need to do after replacing the battery to make sure that everything resets itself. Seems like I recall reading something somewhere that said I needed to drive it a certain distance or something to make sure the computer for the transmission is properly reset as well as the overhead navigation system that tells what direction I am going in. Thanks again.
