Red face Injectors clean, / replace...

I have 137,000 on my 5.4 EB 4X4, (97) and want to do some preventive maint. to help avoid roadside breakdown.

I was wondering "should I replace" or just have cleaned, the fuel injectors?
With the mileage adding up don't really know the best thing. Clean some, replace others?
Maybe someone can explain the "Best" action to take.

When I make trips I normaly get around 12.5 mi. to a gal. of gas, and thats driving below 70. Haven't been able to get any better than...

Thought injectors may help in that area...

Thx. cobrah

Might check around local and see if anyone in your area can clean them. Physically take them out and clean them. There also are some cleaners that you can use that adapts to the fuel rail that will clean the injectors while on the truck. Might have to call around to some local automotive places to see if they offer this service. I use to know the name of the cleaner for this type of application, I just can't rember it, might have to google it. As for replacing them, anywhere from $55-$65 a piece plus labor.

That gas milage is not good, I know on one of my 2,400 mile adventure this summer we got anywhere from 15-17mpg on open road going from 75-85 mph. I have the 4x4 EB. Now on a good head wind my mileage dropped like a rock down to 13mpg, that's fighting a 20-30mph wind.

Of course the injectors is just one piece of the pie, fuel filter, air filter and plugs are the other pieces.

This might not be much help, but in my '01 EB I get around 12.5 MPG running 65-75MPH. If I keep it at 55 or 60, I get great mileage. Anything over that and it drops off precipitously.

Exclamation Ouch!!

Well, I had the #4 coil pac. replaced with a new one and paid $60.0 for the labor. Sounds kinda high to me... any feed back?

The coil at "Advance" was another $52.00, I shopped on that one, "good price".

Number 1 plug, #2, #3 (uuummm) harder, #5 #6, I think I could do, but the rest is a bad day!

I hope to maybe get some better gas mileage. I have had the plugs changed out about 30,000 mi. ago. New filter, run Amoco (BP) fuel reg. and drive moderately.

Thak you guy's for the help you have given...
