tranny vibration
. Here comes a snappy one. I have a 90 k/m 96 explorer sport with auto transmition. Transmition is fine al over but vibrates at certain speed. Have had this problem for years. It does not get worse. Have tried to track the problem closer and finally came to the conclusion that one othe drums of the transmition box generates such vibration. It does not slip , it does not yerk, it only vibrates when pulling the truck. This ocurrs between speeds of about 50-70 m/h. Maybe sometimes it will not vibrate when not pulling (as when going down a hill) but it certainly gets fairly rough when going up a hill for instance. Something like switching into 4 wheels. While gaining mor speed you can feel the transmition swithching to the O/D or another drum and becomes quite smooth as it should. My question is: What causes the problem? Is it some bearings? Must the tranny be tripped to bits? Basically how much is worth such repairs? I´d appreciate some help. Cheers Karslake
In the past vibrations at highway speed have developed that were
not quite balanceable tires on the rear setting up a vibration through the drive train. Switch the tires front to back and it would go away. I dont remember the forum or the thread but I do remember a lot of talk about 60 mph drive train vibrations in 90's era explorers. The only other load only vibration I've had was a u joint losing lubrication but it shouldn't do that very long without
failing.
My current 2004 has developed a vibration or shudder on take off from stop
thats what I was looking for when I saw your post. Any one have similar experience or idea? Its under warranty I'll see if dealer can help.
Come to think of it maybe you are right. Maybe it is not the tranny. Once we had a tremendous problem with a weird vibration and houling sound with a small car I had and it turned to be the roof rack that vibrated with the wind at 50 m/h. Maybe this vibration I have now is due to wheel alingment ? As I say, this vibration develops only when the gas is pressed and at about 40-60 m/h. Think my next step is to change the back tires.
Thanks
