bronco tranny??

went wheelin last weekend in my 91' ford bronco, and go t to the end of the trail and looked under the rig and tranny fluid was spewing out of what looked like a rubber plug directly under the transmition. does anyone have any ideas what that is, or if maybe it was the front main seal on the transmition? over the course of prolly 150 yards the leak completly drained the transsy and i had to get towed back by my buddy's 75 ford pickup. any help would be appreciated. thanks yall

was the plug in the bottom of the bellhousing? if so it is your torque converter. that plug is the access hole to the torque converter drain plug. check the fluid level too cuz it may be your drain plug for your tranny but thats not rubber. good luck

I havethe same problem with my '91 E40D. Seems to happen when tranny gets hot. I haven't found anyone with answers yet. Most think that the stock trans oil cooler that runs through the radiator is plugged and allows the fluid to overheat and find a seal or cracked tourque converter to escape from. My tranny was rebuilt before I bought the truck. Only way to really find out is drop the tranny, check out the tourque converter and seal. By then you should do a rebuild. I am living with it. But it appears it is only a matter of time. Let me know if you find anything different.

Mine has been doing this off and on for about 6 months. Seems to happen after an hour or so of highway speed. I first refilled the fluid, then I had the system power flushed, nothing has helped. I have to watch it pretty close. It has started to slip in the last month or two. Mine will go until I coast to a stop. Can't deal with a rebuild now. When I do have it rebuilt, it will get a add on oil cooler. That is the only thing that everyone I have talked to has suggested. Good luck.
