Has anyone ever installed a remote start in one of these.I have installed them before but they had no anti theft and only one coil. How can i bypass the anti-theft is the a module i can get like the GMs have. And where can I pickup the Tach signal, The dash? Computer? GEM? The last few days have been around
-30c so i would really like to get it installed
thanks
You should do a site search on remote starter. Lots of posts on the topic. Regarding the module, yes, you can get one that essentially works like a GM PATS override.
Does anyone have a recommendation on which remote starter to get. I was thinking of one as well but the choices go from 300 bucks on down to 70. Which one would be the one of choice. Given that I have a 98 5.4 auto w/power doorlocks lariat F150. Thanks, I didn't mean to jump your posts.

For $219 I had a shop install an Audiovox "Prestige" remote start/keyless entry in mine. I love it. Fantastic reception distance.
Out of all the different remote starters I've installed I like the AstroStart best.
The Ford systems are good too but they seem to be a bit more work to install. I haven't actually installed a Ford system but have seen lots of them installed.
I have installed Budogs on several cars and am getting ready to install one on my 99 F150 over the holidays. Their web site, www.bulldogsecurity.com, has wiring diagrams for their units, it may be helpful.
If I have the Ford factory keyless entry, can a remote start be added to that and just exchange the keyfobs?
Yes I know I'll probably pay more if I went with a Ford system instead of aftermarket but I don't want something that's cobbled together either
Generally, if the remote starter system you purchase also includes a provision to work the door locks, then the aftermarket keyfob will have a button to work the doors. This keyfob would then replace the Ford keyfob you have now.
We have a '01 F-150 SuperCrew Off Road, with the 5.4
We had the Ford Keyless, anti-theft, security, remote start installed.
We got NEW key fobs, (the new ones have the keyless button on them), and kept the old fobs. They will STILL un-lock the truck if nned be. We paid $500.00,(dealer installed), for the unit.
We have really liked the performance of the unit. HOWEVER, we had trouble with the "Dealerships workmanship), {it was a MESS}. Another FORD dealer fixed that, and al was/is !!!!!!!
We went with the FORD unit because of the warrenty on the truck, the FORD + FORD parts. Didn't want a "hack job" by some store like Circuit City/Best Buy. THat's my truck, and how I get to wrok !!!!!!!!!
I put the Ford "Gold" remote starter and security system on mine. Big job but works well. As previously mentioned, the old RKE's still work as before, but of course, cannot remote start or turn off the alarm.
Many of the aftermarket systems require that a key be hidden in the dash. The Ford does not, and I prefer that. Maybe by now the aftermarket units have eliminated that also.
Just installed a BullDog yesterday. Used a T connector and it made it easier, Still had to tap in for brake, park lights, hood switch. It uses a bypass module with a programed key in it for anti theft.
This may be a dumb question, and I probably know the answer...but is there any way to install a remote start in a standard...? I realize that you technically could if you kept the truck in neutral, however as you know, it could take off on you if you were in first gear. Are there any other heating options short of actually starting the ignition? The weather is bloody cold this week (-35C) and I have to ask the question. (99F150 4.2L standard)
I know for a fact that you can put a remote starter in a standard. I wasn't driving a Ford at the time, however I did have one installed. It's obvioulsy a bit more complicated to install and operate, however once you got the hang on it, it worked fine. Can't remember the system I had, but it essentially runs off the dome light. Put the car in neutral, set the handbrake, hit the button, lights flash a number of times, open the door, get out, close the door, hit the other button and the car stops and the system is armed. Sounds great, but can you see the pitfall??? As long as you have no problems with the switch on the door jam that operates the light or with the hand brake, you're fine. The other "problem" was that once the system was armed, if you opened the door for any reason (forget something in the car that you had to return for) then the system would deactivate itself and you would have to start all over. Get in, close the door, start the car, release the hand brake, set the hand brake, hit the button, ......you get the picture. Like I said, it's possible, it's just a bit more complicated and restrictive.
