Cats are OK, had three. They tend to destroy things around the house and make some stains, but an inside/outside cat is the best cause it goes #1 and #2 elsewhere and I don't need a scooper. I wish my last cat was still around, he was the best mouser. Right now I have mice in the kitchen and I wish my old bud was here to tear them up. I'll get a dog when I retire, cause I'll have time to tend to it. Right now, since we all work, fish, birds, and cats are the only way to go. All three are smart enuf to take care of themselves, unlike dogs.
I've had cats all my life. We have 4 right now but I think it will be down to 3 soon. I have a 22 year old cat named Buddy who has been the coolest cat ever. Gentle and very smart, he has had a very good life! He will be 23 in May 2005 if he makes it, but that isn't a given as he is starting to falter a bit. We got him in August of 1982 when he was 12 weeks old. As long as he functions ok {eats, poops, and can get around} I'll keep him. If he shows any signs of suffering I'll have him put down. I owe that to him! I had 4 others that lived to 16,17,17, and 18 years before they died so I must be doing something right! All of them have been indoor/outdoor cats, I think that is the best life for a cat. The other 3 are all 2 y.o. and under so I'll be a cat owner for a long while still!
I have had numerous cats over the years and have found them, especially Siamese, to be very devoted, loyal and good watch cats. Our males would meet me at the back door a growling when Id come home later than 10 as a kid. I had a female Siamese who was born into my hand and was the love of my life for over 22 years, before her body finally gave out on her. My heart broke when she had to be put to rest. I still can't think long about her without shedding a tear or reliving some very fond memories. She's the only cat that when I mentioned that she'd never brought me any mice, she went out to the wood pile and brought me in three babies. Her and I played "pup-dog". I'd get a soft ball and toss it, she'd run after it and come trotting back like a little "pup-dog". All I'd have to do is ask..."Wanna play Pup-dog?" and she'd search the house until she found her ball. When she was finished, she'd run after the ball, pick it up, turn around and look at me, drop the ball there, turn and head for the bed to take a stretch and a nap.
I'm stupid over cats....and I love every moment of it.
anyway the one main thing about cats if you want there loyalty, you have to earn it they dont give it away like dogs, dont get me wrong i love dogs, great animals but they are stupid, cats are more coy.
Our cat now absolutely adores me, she will come up on my bed at night and sleep with me, and sit in my lap all the time. My mom on the other hand, the cat only likes her if I am not around. If I am there she will ignore my mom and jump on my lap. I guess I did something right at earning her loyalty!

But I've made good friends with him and I have the scratches to prove it. He would play quite rough at the beginning; scratching and biting etc but I'd jsut give him a firm push when he did it and he got the message. I play a little rough with him now and he's not overzealous with the scratching and biting... I don't get anything I don't deserve, and now I can actually pet him for more than 5 seconds without him wanting to fight.
I had a few cats as a kid as well.
A friend of ours has a cat like this. They found him on the side of the road when he was a kitten and he was hit by a car. When we would visit them, he would never come out for us, and if he saw us he would run away. Finally one day I had to feed their cats, and he was so happy that I gave him food, that he came after me when he was finished eating and let me pet him. I guess he figured out that I wasn't going to hurt him, and he will come around me now without any problem.
My wife and I had 2 cats up until a little while ago. See, she gave one away (the one I actually liked) to some roofing contractor. I have no idea why.
The one she kept made a mess of our house. Puke everywhere, hairballs everywhere, $*&# everywhere, that cat was hopeless. The more he'd make a mess, the madder I'd get. And the madder I got, the more he made a mess. Every time I set out to clean some part of my house, I keep finding some "remains" of this stupid cat, like dried hairballs behind the washer and dryer, or under the stairs. That sucker was fast too. I never could catch him. But if I could have caught him, I would have wrung his neck. Anyway, one day, he decided he didn't like living with us anymore, and took off. He came back after about 3 weeks, stayed a week, and has been gone since. I guess that was about Labour Day. So just last week, I threw out any remaining cat stuff, like his food, water bowl, and litter box.
It's safe to say we won't be having any more cats. I'm allergic anyways. How I put up with 2 for 6 years is a medical marvel. But I did enjoy the time they spent with us. Even the "dirty" one had his moments.
I like cats. We've always had cats and dogs, and while I'm a dog person, cats are cool. Not much to worry about, take care of themselves for the most part, and surprise the heck out of you now and then. Like last year, my wife and I were at my dad's. She went to use the bathroom and came back with a funny look. "I didn't know your cat could use the toilet."
"I didn't either."
"Well, I just walked in on Tiggy, and he gave me a dirty look like excuse me, I'm busy here. He was peeing in the commode."
None of us knew he did that, he must have seen the family and decided to try it himself. We never trained him or anything and he was 7 or 8 years old then.
The best thing about cats is their pride. One jumped off the table and tried to run through the closed glass door at full speed- SLAM- cat sits back, shakes his head, gives everyone a glare, and slinks off to lick his bruised ego for the rest of the day. Gotta love 'em.
We've always had cats, and dogs. The cats have been better behaved than the dogs, and they don't want to play at strange hours. I have a 12 year old cat that has been the best. He's still agile and very playfull, he hunts (mostly outside, as housemice see to bore him), and sleeps. He's very loyal, except when you want to put him in a cage, then he's mad for a week. I would take a cat over a dog any day of the week, and I'm allergic...
Cats are cool. I live with two (you don't own cats hehe). Both are indoor cats. The big male (Earl) acts more like a dog - comes when he's called, sleeps on the sofa and is always at the door to greet me when I get home. The little one (Dana) acts more like a cat - secretive, sneaky, always getting into mischief and only comes around when she feels like it.
I've had them for 12 and 11 years respectively and can't immagine not having them around. I suppose I'll always have cats.
Cats are OK, We have three, 2 outside 1 inside. My favorite one is 18 yrs. old and still gets moles. She earns her keep. I have to give them credit in that they don't need you , they just hang out with ya.
I have all the benefits of an outdoor cat, without actually having one. lol. My neighbor has a cat and a dog, ans since the cat hates the dog, it hangs out at my place in the back yard. Its always there whenever I go out.
Cats are excellent to live with, we have 3 living at our house. One greets me every day, another sleeps next with us on cold nights. Always a cat around in our house getting into something!
I have a cat and 2 dogs all my animals I get from households where their abused or the pound. I think of my house as a animal sancuary. I have a full blooded female maine coon cat. I got her from the paper a couple had her and she was abused by the male owner because he wanted a dog so I took her in. They had all her claws removed when usally only the front where done he was mean to her. When I first got her she was 2 and she was very mean for a while due to the abuse and scared of people. After having her for a while she is very friendly and loves people. I had her for 8 years now. Every morning she will wait by the fridge a meow till I give her milk. She is the most vocal cat ive ever seen. If I call her she will be here quick.
