99 F150 Automatic Weird Shifting Problem
Help! Something must have slipped. I have to have the gears on the steering column showing different from what is intended. If I intend to have it in "park", I must put gear in "reverse". If I want it in "Drive", I must put gear in "2nd" , etc.
Any suggestions?

If you just shift it by feel do the gears line up where they should? With the shifter pulled the whole way down it's in 1st etc?
If that's ok then the problem is probably the cable from the shift lever on the column to the indicator on the dash. There is a bracket type of thing that holds the cable to the column and they break sometimes.

I have the EXACT same problem. Everything is off by one on the column. 1st is in the blank space at the end and yes, they all seem to be positioned the same as they were...only off by one. Where should we get at this cable that you mention? How do we attack this problem?
