Does anyone what newer truck would be the best for a undercarrige swap for a 1960 f-100 with a 8 foot bed? thinking maybe doing that instand of a powerpackage change
tryed that.. had so many hits.. it was dizzing.. and stil havnt found what in looking for in the hits.. So any help would be nice.. I have done body swaps befor and had them come out real nice.. did it with me 65 Chevy to a 2000 1500 with all the toys..
Mad... reading your request very closely it would appear that you are the go to guy for this information. At least you would have dimensions and details of a modern Chevy truck frame... plus all of the know how concerning issues of fit and form.
No surprise that you didn't find what you seek in the search. There appear to be two reasons for this: 1) putting vintage F-100 sheetmetal on another frame has not yielded a successful swap for the effort, and 2) nobody here has done it or wants to admit it.
The answer seems to be: No newer truck frame is best for an undercarriage swap for an F-100. Your background in frame swapping, however, gives you a leg up in the attempt... and I, for one, would like to see this question resolved satisfactorily. A fellow on another board does an S-10, early Chevy truck swap. His trucks "hug the earth"... overdone in the lowering department IMO... but that's not your biggest issue. Perhaps this is the start of some valuable research. good luck. himmelberg
