E-350 engine removal

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone knows of the least damaging way to remove the engine (351W) and tranny from a '95 E-350, The tranny is puking fluid out and the guy might want to replace the engine too, due to high milege and all. Thanks for any help.

Tranny removal is very easy on Econoline. It comes out the bottom. The motor is a little harder. Remove grill, ac condensor, radiator, top bar of the radiator support, and throttle body. Attach a lift plate in place of the throttle body and use a boom type engine hoist. As easy as the tranny is to take out the bottom I wouldn't try to pull engine and tranny together although it can be done.

Ok, thanks, I was kinda wondering because if he decides to go withy replacing both I was hoping I could just pull them both from the front, either way though.

I had pulled both out together on a 78 e150 at least 10 years ago. I think it was a 351 but I can't remember for sure.
No I can say I would not recommend even trying to do so. Cause this van was sent to the bone yard after I got the good out. So I didn't care and did a lot of cutting on the body to make it come out this way. I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do this without cutting as much as I did.
Also it was fun to do it this way.

I took the engine and trans out as a single unit thru the front in my 89 e-150 and put a 351 back in the same way.

Ok, thanks, As long as I have the chioce, I'm gonna try it once it wams up a bit. It looked like it would go as long as I pulled the upper plenum off the intake.

yep. pull the plenum, attach the hoist as close to the top of the engine as you can. One on the transmission tailshaft, two to pull the hoist forward.

I wonder if I can get the hay fork on the tractor in there without damaging anything, I like my '76 Dodge Van, I can pull the engine through the passenger side door.
