This was supposed to be a new post, but somehow it got added as a reply to another post...???
Ok got a couple questions...
Is there a way to silence the door open chime so it doesn't ring each and every time you open the blasted door! It's driving me nuts! I usually have to make several trips to my Ex when I go off to work (at 5:00 am) and every time I open the door the chime goes off.
Also is there a way to set the power door locks so that when you get out of the vehicle it leaves all the doors and back hatch unlocked until you lock it yourself?
Please don't think of my reply as smart alecky, but .... (1) To avoid the chime, remove the key from the ignition, and (2) When exiting your vehicle, simply press the unlock button, and all doors and lift gate should remain unlocked.
I may have not answered your questions the way you wished, but then again, I may not have read your questions correctly, either. My 2001 chimes only once when the engine is running and a door is opened, but does so continuously if the engine is dead and the key is in the ignition.
Ok maybe it would help explain my question if I gave a couple examples...
I go out to start my Ex on a cold day. The chime rings when I open the door. I bring out the first load of stuff. The chime rings. I bring out the second load. The chime rings. I open the door to get the snow brush out. The chime rings. I get in to leave after brushing the snow off. The chime rings....it can get annoying!
Once I arrive at my destination, I turn the Ex off. Then I get out and go to the back to unload - oops, I forgot to manually unlock all the doors before I got out...so back to the front I door I go.
Little annoyances I know, but still annoyances that I would like to be rid of. Any help?
Look in the owner's manual, I think there is something there about the auto locks. I have a small child so the auto locking doors is a plus for me. My neighbor's new dodge ram has the auto locking feature and it can be turned off with a combination of ignition and lock button pushing. Never tried it on the X but remember something about it.
Are you talking about the seatbelt chime or just the chime when the key is in? I was able to turn the seatbelt minder off but not the door chime. THere is also a post on disabling the autolocks. I tried this on my X but it did not work for me. Give it a try - maybe it will work for you
Heavnbound;
You can turn the autolock feature off and be much happier. The procedure is in the owners manual. If you don't have a manual you can register at myford.fordvehicles.com and download one in PDF format.
Mine isn't handy or I post the procedure here. Very simple though, you put the key in ignition and do some gyrations to put it in program mode. My wife's Trailblazer has a better setup. It locks all doors when you put it in drive and unlocks all the doors when you put it in park.
I agree on the chime! Why can't I work on the Ex with the doors open and the radio on without having to listen to the chime! I don't see why it doesn't turn off after 10 seconds. If I have left the keys in the ignition accidentally I will have definitely shut the door within 10 seconds.
Thanks for your input rikosintie, I'll look in the manual and see if I can find the autolock information and see if it will solve my fight with the doors!
Thanks also Monsta for your info...I have favorited the Super Duty Faq' page - lots of good info there! As for your question why I don't just use the key fob...well that's what I do now but I invariably put the keys in my pocket and then go to unlock the doors I have to fumble to find them. Since I wear Carrharts a lot of the time, I have about six pockets to go through and...well it's just nice to be able to yank on the door and it opens!
