What I was trying to say is will the shackle just swing forward
or backward when I start loading the bed instead of the spring
absorbing the stress? But I think I see how they work now.
Does anyone know where I could buy some heavy duty shackles
for the front and back springs for my truck? Since I barely had
the means to make my own shock mounts I doubt I'd be able to
make shackles.
making the shackle is the easy part just get some thick steel, cut it out to length, and drill holes in both ends for the bolts you can be fancy if you want, and make it into a H with something in hte middle. but whatever you do I would definatly look into something else for the lift stacking blocks like that is never a good idea
I wouldn't stress over 400-800 pounds on my stock shackles. Anything over that I'd be a little cautious with it. If you want to experiment with it get a few fat people in the bed of your truck (preferrably chicks, it's fun to watch fat chicks try to get in a big truck). Take a look and see how much the shackle moves. It won't go as far as you'd think.

I didn't think a 2.5" lift block on top of my stock set-up would be bad.
I'm not sure how else I was supposed to lift my truck up only 2".
But I don't like the whole lift block idea anyway. But I don't exactly have
1,200 to get a 6" spring lift front and back ya know?
Anyway I'm going to get a front leaf kit to get the front up 4"
but for the back I was going to remove the block and do a shackle flip
I'm thinking I may buy a stock set of shackles from NAPA and have
the dude down the road weld on some extra support. Any ideas are
much appreciated. I have some scrap SS (made the shock mounts)
but trying to cut through that with a Sawz-All is insane and takes
for ever. Like I said I'm kinda new at the "fab" part of working on
vehicles but I'm trying to learn. Thanks for all the info guys!
