Shakle flip

Ok, so, I did the shakle flip on my truck, and got a few inches out of it.. It's an 81 F100.. now, I've got a bronco at my house too, that I used as spair parts for my truck.. I noticed how the front of the leaf springs, are pushed way down by the bracket that holds it to the frame.. would it be strong enough/ok to take the those off the bronco and use it for the rear ones on my truck? It'd give it like 8 inches or so, from what it looks. Just curious.

8" of lift? If you get that much lift from any stock hanger/shackle, I don't think it would be strong enough and would probably collapse when offroading.

The most I've seen on a 80-96 big Bronco is like 4 to 4.5"

I would hope that if you are dropping the brackets down that much you are also seriously reinforcing them.

I wasn't talking just flipping/dropping the rear leaf bracket. I already flipped it, leaving it in the stock location.
Now I wanted to take the front bracket from another 80's p/u and use that as my rear bracket. f150300six seems to know what I was talkin' about. I guess 8 was probably an exageration. 6 sounds closer to home.

f150300six, when you did yours, how was the articulation of the axel/driveline, and the brake lines, etc? It's still my daily driver so, I need to make sure I have all the parts available at my house before I start tearin' it apart.

That's 6.5" of lift. It looks like over 8" at the shackle itself but the actual lift is split between the front and rear mounting points so it ends up being a little less. The bracket I used is off an 86 fullsize Bronco.

That's exactly what I'm talkin' about.. I'd be gettin' it off of an 85 bronco.

While we are on this subject, i 've got a question about how much lift i will get out of the schackle flip/ using shackles i made myself, along with brackets off an early 70's something 2 ton ford flatdeck:

This setup drops the rear spring eye down approximatley 8.5" from the stock location, and the new shackle is 7.5" from hole to hole (from where i plan on drilling the holes on each end)

Proeliator and I both figured that was what you were talking about. What we were talking about is that the weight of the rig and the leverage on those things will collapse them. What I was getting at is that you should beaf up factory hangers and shackles something like this:

What are you doing about your pinion angle? Axle wrap?

Here is a Bronco that got 9" of lift using a Sky Bracket and BellTec lowering shackle. But, notice the "beef" on it. Also the pinion angle was corrected.

Mustang, I'm guessing you'll be getting 6-7" out of your shackle flip with the new shackles and those brackets you're using. Your spring eye will probably be at about the same point as mine is in the picture above. I'm using a stock shackle with a lower hanger, you're using a higher hanger/bracket and a longer shackle. I think if you get a good angle on those they'll flex really well.

I think Meilichios is talking about using the Bronco hangers, not the Bronco shackles. While the hanger is a little lighter guage steel than the F250 hangers I think it'll hold up fine. But beefing up the shackles like rlh showed would be a good idea so they don't fold over when you beat on them.

FWIW I found that with the shackle flip it moves the pinion up and on my truck it corrected the pinion angle without me having to use any shims. My pinion is 0 degrees. This may or may not work on your truck.
