I think the coil for electronic ignition will not work on a point dizzy. There are internal diffs that don't work with the lower signal strength of the points. Not sure if that makes sense but I think you need a coil designed for points with an EXTERNAL ballast resistor.
i think putt may be right i am going to buy a accel super coil # 8140 for points ignitions but the truck ran fine on this coil until i turned the truck off did it fry the coil.
Just currious, why go back to points? If you had a system that was working fine before the tear down, why not use it again. For the money of that Accel coil, I'd pick up a remanned DSII dizzy and keep it electronic.
I'll share my experiences with an Accel coil. I got the cheap Accel Super Stock coil. I hooked it up, and it worked fine. For about a month. Then, it would work fine until the engine got hot. Then at idle, it would lose spark for some reason. I was stranded a few times until I figured it out. Towed back, and it started right up. I changed back to the stock coil and the problem went away.
All I'm saying is, avoid Accel ignition stuff. I may have got the occasional bad one, but why chance it?
I would recommend the MSD Blaster High Vibration coil.
oh crap i just bought all new accel wires super stock coil i guess i will buy the msd tonight. And do you know if i should run resistor spark plugs or not
