2 things.
1 When I put the Holley jets in one of them went all the way down the hole. Would I be correct to assume when oil gets pumped up there it will simply push the jet up again as long as there is pressure and no problems will be had?
2 When I went to do the mods to the engine I found the previous rebuilder had already done them, however instead of a 7/16 hole drilled to the filter pad he had drilled a 1/2" hole. Is that of any concern?
It could maybe cause some turbulance. Try to match you oil pump passage where it mounts the passage that was enlarged. As long as it didn't break through to the other passage it should be fine I would think. Are you going to run a High-Volume Pump?
The 1/2 on the filter pad is fine. If you have a C8 filter adapter casting you will see it's opened up compared to the older C0 castings for more flow. If you have a older C0 filter adapter with the smaller passages you can use a 1/2 drill bit to open them up and a dremel to smooth and channel. Take a look at your adapter to see which you have. The C8/C0 casting number is on the top but hard to see if covered with paint. The large oil passages are easy to spot and you can use a 1/2 bit to check the dia of the oil passage if you can't determine which adapter you have. There is plenty of meat on the older castings to open them up and I've found it a cheap upgrade then spending the $35+ on a repop or oem CJ C8 casting. I've also had some early C0 427 filter adapters that have the larger oil passages and have a extra sensor bung for oil temp I beleive. Sorry to ramble on filter adapters but this is often overlooked and should be checked to enhance your mods. G.
Yes I'm using the Melling hv pump. The engine is in another garage right now where the truck is so I will have to wait to check the adapter, although it seemed as though the holes is there were 1/2" to start with. It also places the filter a little farther away from the block than other ones I've seen.
