I have a 77 F150 4x4 400 C6. I have recently had the motor rebuilt along with the tranny. Since I have installed my 6" lift I have noticed this shutter when I take off and even sometimes a clunk. I dont remember it being there before I lifted it but cant say it wasnt there. I didnt really drive the truck much before I lifted it. I recently had the rear driveline extended, replaced the carrier barring and u-joints. The guy from the driveline shop thought it must be coming from the rearend (9") So I took it back down to him and had him pull out the 3rd member and inspect it and everything seemed fine. What else could it be? I really doubt its a tranny issue since it was there before and is still there now. Could it be the transferr case? The guy from the tranny shop wants me to take it to a differnt mechanic then the one that put my motor into my truck and have him check out everything on the motor to make sure its running in tip top shape before he looks at it again. I am going to do this just curious if anyone has any idea what it could be.
Sounds like pinion angle vibration to me. The output shaft from the transmission and the pinion shaft should be very close to parallel. The rear end can be adjusted with tapered caster shims between the spring and spring saddle on the rear end.
That is the first thing the guy from the driveline shop thought it was. The blocks I had first put on were tapered. He got another set wich adjust the angle of the driveline and the rearend. I assume this is the same thing you were refferring to. Thanks for the info.
